At the age of 37 I was "labeled" 75% disabled. I worked in the restaurant industry for many years and ignored all messages of pain my body was trying to send me. I was constantly irritable, smoking cigarettes (which exasperated my severe asthma), and was extremely overweight. When I finally went to the doctor, I was indefinitely pulled out of work because of the multiple injuries I had sustained due to years of overuse.
I had herniations in my neck and low back, as well as problems with both of my shoulders. After undergoing seven operations over the span of two years my condition did not improve. I was at the lowest point in my life and I felt as if I had no means to help myself.
Being financially unstable for the better part of twelve years also added to the multitude of problems. I found myself overwhelmed and depressed. What was happening to me? My personal life, physical health, and mental wellness were spiraling downward at an alarming rate.
Finally, by the grace of God, I made the decision to help myself and stop all surgeries and medications. I quit smoking and started exercising slowly, but regularly. I adopted healthy eating habits and learned how to make better choices for my health and well-being. As time progressed I became stronger and I noticed that my body was changing. After my transformation, my family and friends began asking me to help them get back into shape, and thus began my journey to living.
After a few months, I started working towards my certification as a personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I began training clients at a local gym in the Syracuse area and while I was happy there, it was my dream to open my own private fitness studio and help others achieve their path to healthy living regardless of income level or socio-economic status. I truly believe that every person should be given the opportunity to maintain their health and well-being at a reasonable price that works with their budget.
In May of 2011, the opportunity presented itself where I was able to finally see my dream become a reality. Which brings us to the present moment. Tia Falcone Fitness has been open for over a year now and I could not be more blessed to have a career that I love and clients that have become my family. I really can't believe it, but I also can't say that I'm surprised. I learned a long time ago that you can achieve your dreams and goals if your approach and reaction is rooted in faith.
